The Shadow Behind the Flame

On Thursday October 13th, I saw �The Shadow Behind the Flame.� It was written and directed by D. Denver Pick, and was presented at the Macon Little Theater. The exceptional work was about the story of Anjette Lyles, a restaurant owner convicted of poisoning her daughters, and being involved in the so called �accidental� deaths of her two husbands and mother-in-law. The play took the audience . through Anjette�s childhood all the way up to her adulthood, and her being on childhood. The play gave the audience a great mixture of emotions as they laughed at the humor and shivered from the chills they got watching a cold blooded murder right before their eyes.

was shown every time a man would enter her restaurant tin the play. She gave the audience a mysterious feel. She would have a smile on her face, but everyone could tell that something was not right. For example when one of her family members were in the hospital she would smile and say �They just hate that hospital food� as she packed food to bring them. The statement sounded so innocent but she was really poisoning them. She was cold and sweet all at the same time, which was what brought life to her character. She showed her emotions very well. When she was happy, mad, or sad, the audience knew. Like when her victims would die she was happy, even though she perceived to be upset. She also worked great alongside the other characters. The audience got a great sense of hoe her relationship was with each person, and what her true feelings were towards them. Overall she did the character of Anjette Lyles a great justice in how she portrayed herself.
