The book, Treasure Island, is full of exciting adventures and lessons to learn. The main character, Jim, experiences the bulk of those lessons. He learns about greed and desire, good vs. evil, role models, and about maturity/coming-of-age, which are prevalent themes in this book. Most of the themes revolve around the main characters, Jim and Long John Silver, and relate to middle schoolers because most of them are or have experienced these lessons/themes already.

after that Billy Bones, the pirate staying at the inn, dies as well. After the death of his father, Jim finds himself searching for a role model to fill the void he now feels. He meets a lot of men who he thinks can fill that void. He meets the squire who is a planner and full of adventure, Captain Smollett has all of the characteristics of a good leader, and Dr. Livesey is very professional and has a good head on his shoulders. All of these men have good, upholding values that anyone would consider excellent characteristics. Then there is Long John Silver who is the complete opposite of the rest of the men because he is conniving, manipulative, two-faced, and a pirate. At first, Silver seemed like a good person and Jim began to look up to him and follow him around like a little puppy solely based on Jims� first impressions of Silver. All of the men want and desire the treasure they are so desperately pining over and they go to great lengths to find this treasure because all of the men are consumed with greed.
