Imagine a world where you no longer had to make an effort, or ever think about performing simple everyday tasks such as cleaning, computing, or driving a car because your every bit of labor was obviated by machines with artificial intelligence, capable of performing those tasks more effectively than you could. Thus, allowing you an abundance of time to accomplish more sophisticated tasks. could spend his or her time commuting to work by checking stocks, writing e-mails, reading news, making phone calls, or preparing presentations; their computer-controlled cars would essentially drive for them. With developments in artificial intelligence, the aforementioned are all very possible and could be probable in the near future. For many Americans, this sort of future would be ideal, as it would eliminate wasted time, and the need to perform menial and colorless grunt work, as well as the possible mounting stress caused by them. But what would happen to the generations who are born into that environment? If people grew up in America, in a time where they never had to operate vehicles, use household tools, or balance checkbooks, they almost surely would not be fit to manage if the machines in which those errands were delegated to suddenly stopped working.
