When a discussion is being held with the main topic concerning Muslims and Jews, most people automatically think of the multitude of differences. While there are a large amount of differences, Jews and Muslims also share many similar practices. Islam and Judaism are two of the few religions in the world that have dietary restrictions commanded to them in their religious text for every meal. In Jewish dietary laws, as co-authors Rabbi Ted Falcon, Ph.D. and David Blatner explain in Judaism FOR DUMMIES, "certain procedures must be followed to ensure a humane slaughter" (55). Similarly, author Molly O'Neill affirmed in "The New Neighborhood..." that the Islamic dietary laws state, "the animal must be treated gently". Both religions require the knives used to slaughter the animals to be extremely sharp, so that they are able to kill in a single slice (Blatner and Falcon 55). In the aftermath, to make the slaughter Halal, "the blood must be completely drained from the carcass" (O'Neill); the same must be done to make it Kosher.
